The Toronto Maple Leafs aren't waiting for Brian Burke to come in and start making moves, as the club traded defenceman Carlo Colaiacovo and forward Alex Steen to the St. Louis Blues for forward Lee Stempniak on Monday.
The trade is contingent upon all three players passing their respective physicals.
Stempniak, 25, has three goals and 13 points in 14 games this season. In 233 career games with the Blues, the West Seneca, New York native has 57 goals and 130 points.

The NHL is trying to crackdown on unnecessary blows to the head.
The NHL's Senior Vice President and Director of Hockey Operations, Colin Campbell, had the following memo, obtained by TSN, posted in every NHL dressing room on Friday.
"Recently, we have had two (2) supplemental discipline incidents involving direct elbow blows to the head. This is a play that we have been trying to remove from our game for a number of years. In one case there was no injury and in the other incident the elbowed Player received a concus

General managers will have one extra day to make NHL trades. The league said yesterday it has pushed the trade deadline back to March 4. A high volume of games forced the switch. There are 12 games on the schedule March 3 and only two March 4. The league and NHL Players' Association agreed on the change.

Forward Lars Eller has agreed to a three-year entry level contract with the St. Louis Blues and he will report to St. Louis on Tuesday to undergo physical testing.
The Blues drafted Eller in the first round, 13th overall in last year's NHL Entry draft. He has played for Frolunda in the Swedish Under-20 Elite League for the past two seasons and is playing for Denmark in the IIHF World Championship.
