Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - Nikolai Zherdev picked up a goal and one assist, and Michal Rozsival netted the game-winner as the New York Rangers held off a furious rally to top the Philadelphia Flyers, 4-3, at the Wachovia Center.

Blair Betts and Fredrik Sjostrom also lit the lamp for the Rangers, who rode a four-goal first period to the victory. The club improved to 4-0 for the first time since starting the 1983-84 campaign with five consecutive wins.

Stephen Valiquette made 25 stops for his first win of the se

PHILADELPHIA - Sarah Palin\'s next faceoff will come at centre ice at an NHL arena, not at a debate.

The Republican vice-presidential nominee will drop the ceremonial first puck when the Philadelphia Flyers open the regular season against the New York Rangers on Saturday.

Palin, the Alaska governor and self-described \"hockey mom,\" will join the winner of a team promotion for the \"Ultimate Hockey Mom\" to drop the puck.

NEWARK, N.J. - The New York Rangers rocked the New Jersey Devils' house like no team and rolled right into the second round of the Eastern Conference playoffs.

The Rangers trailed for 18 seconds in the first period before scoring four straight times and holding on for a 5-3 victory Friday night that ended the best-of-seven series in five games.

New Jersey's John Madden was awarded a penalty shot with 7:08 left in the third period after Dan Girardi dragged him down with a sweeping dive with his stick. Madden couldn't

NEW YORK - Marc Staal scored his second straight game-winner. This time he did it into the right net.

The rookie defenceman pushed the New York Rangers within a win of the second round with a good old slap shot. The timing couldn't have better.

Just three days after a puck clipped his skate and went in for New Jersey's winning goal in overtime of Game 3, Staal snapped a tie with 3:13 left to give the Rangers a 5-3 victory over the Devils and a 3-1 series lead Wednesday night.
